The book reflects on my four-decade-long practice of relationship with the arts. Through critical essays and interviews, each piece in the book traces the complexities and evolution of the artist’s journey and establishes my need to play and experiment with form and story building, with references to my paintings, installations, performances and works in the written word. As an artist, I use memory, oral histories and spiritual experiences in worlds where the mythical, mystical, contemporary, fantastical and real-life overlap.
Edited by Annapurna Garimella and Sindhura DM, with Anshika Varma as a consultant to the publication, the book brings together essays by eleven art writers from diverse backgrounds. We are presented with a deep and layered understanding of the artist’s journeys, urgencies and thought processes for the first time. The title, "Restless Line", was inspired by a curated show of my work by Sona Datta several years ago.
