Kaal Netra: Sacred Matrices – Seema Kohli’s Living Mythic Universe

About The Exhibition

Kaal Netra – Sacred Matrices was an in-house curated exhibition presented at the National Gallery of Modern Art, Bengaluru, curated by Darshan Kumar YU, Dy. Curator, NGMA Bengaluru, and inaugurated on 26 August 2025 by Dr Sanjeev Kishor Goutam, Director General, NGMA.

The exhibition featured over 150 works spanning painting, installation, and performance, articulating a living mythic universe rooted in the symbolic, feminine, and spiritual grammars of Kohli’s practice.

Accompanying the exhibition was a comprehensive catalogue published by the National Gallery of Modern Art, Bengaluru (Ministry of Culture, Government of India). The catalogue featured essays and reflections by Dr. Sanjeev Kishor Goutam, Priyanka Mary Francis, Darshan Kumar YU, Satyajit Dave, and Premjish Achari, each offering critical insights into Kohli’s layered engagement with time, myth, memory, and the sacred feminine.

The exhibition also featured a series of events that included: A moderated talk ‘Under the Skin of Time’, narrative performance ‘The Fourth Moon’ written and performed by Seema Kohli, Workshop ‘Sensorium of Consciousness through Memory’ by Seema Kohli, and a Panel Discussion ‘Feminist Forkings: On Gender and Agency’.

Venue: NGMA, Bengaluru
