About The Experience

Conceptualised and designed by Seema Kohli, Sensorium of Consciousness through Memory is an immersive workshop exploring how memory shapes consciousness, identity, and perception through sensory and embodied engagement.


The workshop was first presented at the National Gallery of Modern Art in conjunction with her exhibition Kaal Netra – Sacred Matrices. Participants were invited to reflect on memory as a living, experiential field — layered across the conscious, subconscious, and unconscious mind. Through intuitive processes, dialogue, and mark-making, the session examined how personal and mythic memory intersect, and how embodied experience shapes perception.


The second iteration at the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art brought together students from IILM (aged 18–22) for a collective exploration of memory and the politics of the senses. At the centre of this session, a single large canvas was laid out for everyone to work on together. Rather than individual surfaces, all participants contributed to one shared ground. Personal photographs, fabric fragments, natural objects, written words, and gestures gradually accumulated across the canvas.


As the process unfolded, individual memories began to overlap and merge. Marks responded to marks; stories echoed across the surface. The canvas transformed into a living, textured field of shared recollection — a collective cloud where personal experiences dissolved into a larger consciousness.
Across both institutions, the workshop embodied Kohli’s ongoing inquiry into interconnectedness, perception, and the fluid boundaries between self and collective memory.
